We are broken

I often spend time thinking about an amazing gift we’ve been given… life.  The complexity of it all continues to fascinate me.  We have but to look to the daily news to see the pain and misery out there, but you’ve got to dig deeper to find the hope, grace and beauty out there.  You ever wonder why that is? Why we chose to live like this?  I do! Heck, I’ll admit that I’m the first to zero in on the darkness of man, which more often than not informs my photography (subject matter, capture and post-processing).  I think another of my favorite bands, Paramore, said it best:  “…we are broken, what must we do to restore our innocence??”  (I’ve taken the liberty of posting the lyrics to their song ‘We are broken’ below the photo for those interested.)

We are broken (song and lyrics by Paramore)

I am outside
And I’ve been waiting for the sun
With my wide eyes
I’ve seen worlds that don’t belong
My mouth is dry with words I cannot verbalize
Tell me why we live like this

Keep me safe inside
Your arms like towers
Tower over me

Yeah
Cause we are broken
What must we do to restore
Our innocence
And oh, the promise we adored
Give us life again cause we just wanna be whole

Lock the doors
Cause I like to capture this voice
it came to me tonight
So everyone will have a choice
And under red lights
I’ll show myself it wasn’t forged
We’re at war
We live like this

Keep me safe inside
Your arms like towers
Tower over me

Cause we are broken
What must we do to restore
Our innocence
And oh, the promise we adored
Give us life again cause we just wanna be whole

Tower over me
Tower over me

And I’ll take the truth at any cost

Cause we are broken
What must we do to restore
Our innocence
And oh, the promise we adored
Give us life again cause we just wanna be whole

Love the way the light looks coming through the window. Processing is outstanding as usual, you add a bit more vignette than usual?

I agree with Matt. The light streaming into the building is amazing. The paint peeling from the ceiling is pretty amazing, too. It gives kind of an upside down feel. Or maybe a broken feeling. Awesome post again Jacques!

Hey there, Jim, Matt and photolady! Really do appreciate the repeat visits and, more importantly, your comments and the fact that you enjoy seeing some of my work. Regarding vignetting, there is a bit more ‘burning’ in around the edges to bring the eye more to the room with the broken glass.

Broken. I think we all feel that way at times. This photo is perfect.
