Meet Junior!

While we were in Kenya, we took some time to visit the two wonderful Kenyan my daughters sponsor through the great organization, Compassion.  While visiting one of those children, Philes, in the village of Kiima Kiu, we met one of Philes’ friends, Junior.  When I saw him enjoying a small Cadbury chocolate bar by the wonderfully colored and textures door and wall, I asked if it was okay to take a picture.  I sure was glad he let me take this, as I think it came out pretty well.  I promised I’d send a copy once it was finished, which I’ll have to do through Compassion; sure hope he likes it.

The Cool Curio Shop in the Bush

There are so many interesting this to see and do in Kenya, including visits to some of the many, many African Curio shops.  After a bit, they all do seem to look very similar, so it’s nice to come across a cool one now and then that just begs to be fully explored and photographed, like this one.  We learned from the years we had lived in East Africa that you NEVER, NEVER pay the asking price, something many of you out there no doubt know.  More often than not, and depending on your attitude, there is A LOT of room for negotiating, and you can can save up to 50 percent.  If you do it right, both you and the seller walk away happy, and you both had some fun engaging with each other for a bit.

Adventures in Kenya: The Lodge in the Garden of Eden

As some of you know, I’ve been spending the last couple of weeks traveling with my wife and daughters through Kenya, and it’s been an amazing adventure.  So much has changed since we lived here, just over a decade ago, yet so much remains so very familiar.  Sadly, we’re winding down the last days here, though the memories of the last two weeks will remain with us forever.
