I know I’ve said this before, but it’s dang creepy exploring abandoned asylums on your own, particularly when you come across a scene like this. Â Who knows what lurks behind the next turn… a zombie, an angry specter, or, worse still, a psycho!
Sony NEX-7
It’s been a dog’s age since I had a good URBEX explore, but I finally got fairly good does recently.  I’d been hankering to visit this old abandoned asylum in the woods for a really long time, but had not taken the time to research specific location and infil/exfil routes.  Had a little time after work recently, so I whipped out the smartphone to do a quick recon (google maps and such), leaving me plenty of time for an initial patrol to see what was there.  I was NOT disappointed, even though I only explored the ground floor of the asylum’s main building (it has three levels, including the basement), and none of the several other buildings on the compound.  More to come from this rockin’ location, and I’m certain I’l be hitting this location a few times over the next few months.  BTW, next time you come down here +Bob Lussier we’ll hit this one!
What  better way to christen my very recently purchased Sony NEX-7 (decided not to hold out for the Sony A7R given, for one, the lack of a super-wide angle lens at launch) than with a few brackets of URBEX goodness.  This is but one of the buildings on the now abandoned sanatorium and hospital complex just waiting for an explore.  It’s my understanding there are all sorts of great subjects to explore and shoot there, including lots of medical equipment.  Apparently it is also one of those places you don’t want to go alone.  I used to explore some of those creepy places alone in Germany, but nowadays I’m all for having someone there to experience it with me.  After all, I don’t have to be faster than the creepy crawlies, I just have to be faster than the dude exploring the place with me, right?
