On Fine Art Photography

Often, I find I become bored with showing things they way they appear in real life, rather than the way I see them.  So, rather than a purely documentary capture and treatment of the final image, I tend more towards what many would call fine art photography.  To me, abandoned environments lend themselves quite well to more of an artistic approach, though I know many out there are more purist when it comes to such things.

On another note, I noticed Amazon had one of those tasty daily deals on a 40-watt home theater soundbar from TaoTronics. Decide I’d order one up to give it a whirl. I’ll give my impressions here on the blog once it shows up and I get to try it out.

Cooking up a storm…

I love this old abandoned kitchen at this decaying sanatorium in Germany. I wonder how many people they cooked for in this place. Processing this shot today with the soon to be released Aurora HDR 2018 and already released Luminar Neptune brought back some truly awesome memories of epic urban explorations in Germany, especially in former East Germany.  Try epic stuff there! I’ll post more of those shots here, of course. Oh, and if you want to see what the photograph looked like straight out Aurora HDR 2018, before I added finishing touches, take a look at the image second image in this post.  Some of you may like that version better, but I really prefer the final version I developed in Luminar.

American Psycho

I know I’ve said this before, but it’s dang creepy exploring abandoned asylums on your own, particularly when you come across a scene like this.  Who knows what lurks behind the next turn… a zombie, an angry specter, or, worse still, a psycho!

The Throne Room

I shot cool old chair during my recent second solo visit to the abandoned asylum in the woods, this time visiting several buildings as part of my continued mapping of the complex, as well as part of my continued breaking-in of my recently acquired Sony NEX 7.  So far, this is probably my favorite of the shots I’ve post-processed at this location, though I have some other cool ones that might trump.  BTW, I’m still hunting for an abandoned wheel chair as I have yet to shoot one during an URBEX!

You know the Drill

It’s been a dog’s age since I had a good URBEX explore, but I finally got fairly good does recently.  I’d been hankering to visit this old abandoned asylum in the woods for a really long time, but had not taken the time to research specific location and infil/exfil routes.  Had a little time after work recently, so I whipped out the smartphone to do a quick recon (google maps and such), leaving me plenty of time for an initial patrol to see what was there.  I was NOT disappointed, even though I only explored the ground floor of the asylum’s main building (it has three levels, including the basement), and none of the several other buildings on the compound.  More to come from this rockin’ location, and I’m certain I’l be hitting this location a few times over the next few months.  BTW, next time you come down here +Bob Lussier we’ll hit this one!
